AUTHOR'S COMMENT
»Sonja« is a television adaptation of a short story by Milan Kleč with the title »Dead and alive«. Kleč's work is known to be dark and bizarre. Compared to the original story the screenplay had to go through quite a lot of changes for a literary form to transform into a dramatic one. The result is a romantic story with elements of a horror story which takes place is some kind of an in-between-space, between the world of the living and the world of the dead. This film shows a weird, dusty, mothballs- and decay-smelling surreal world in which a burning love is born but cannot be fulfilled. Why not? Because it was born in a wrong environment. The dead don't love because they are dead.
